I am conducting a study for my doctoral dissertation looking at characteristics of individuals who are involved in online romantic relationships with people they have never met face-to-face.
If you are involved in one of these online relationships, or have been involved in one, would you be so kind as to take my survey? http://www.zoomerang.com/Survey/survey-intro.zgi?p=WEB227TRXU5ZS2
This is a completely anonymous survey, and no data can be traced to any particular individual.
I appreciate any help you can give me in acquiring participants for this research! Please contact me with any questions you may have. I’d be happy to answer them.

Kevin and I met in the best way possible: THROUGH OUR EXS! LOL
We went on a double date in October of last year and after talking, we realized that we had more in common with each other than with the people we were actually seeing at the time. We both have a passion for history, gaming, computers, and (the deepest passion between the two of us) Israel and Zionism (which yeah, I know is weird. How many Puerto Ricans do you know how are passionate about Israel? I'm an oddball, I know LOL).
We went our seperate ways after that, but met up this past March after a mutual friend invited us both out one nite. Neither of us knew the other would be there, and neither of us knew that the other was single. He had just broken up with the skank...err...his gf and the guy I was seeing at the time had decided to go his seperate way. We friended each other on facebook, began talking over AIM, and (FINALLY) a few days later he asked me out. We talked about everything and anything that nite and it was incredible. He asked me out every nite that week, and I saw him every nite till I left Buffalo to come back to NYC for my spring break. No idea what he felt, but I know each nite I hated having to say goodbye as he dropped me off at my dorm.
Later that month, he proposed for the first time. A few weeks later (and 3 more tries on his part), I (finally) said yes. I can't speak for him, but I know I've never been happier. :-)
He put the ring on my finger officially on April 28, 2006 and we're getting married on March 3, 2007.
My ex was a fool, but I do thank him because without him, I would have never met the guy I'm so excited about spending the rest of my life with.

Ok, this is a bit complicated, so try to keep up ;-)
I had been dating a guy and it went pretty well for a few months, and he broke up with me for no apparent reason, other than he had lost interest. It was one of my first "real" relationships, during my senior year of high school. So naturally, I was crushed, and did everything I could to try and get him back...but he just wasn't interested. On the other hand, he seemed to enjoy the fact that I still liked him. Eventually, I got over it, which apparently upset him because one night he saw on my away message that I was going to a concert, and decided he would "bump" into me. It would have been too obvious because he didn't really listen to that particular band, so he invited a new friend to come with him that happened to like that band.
This new friend, named Tom, he met at his sister's high school musical cast party. Tom was at the cast party with his then girlfriend because she had been in the musical. My ex and Tom started talking and realized they had similar tastes in music and such, and exchanged numbers. A few weeks later Tom broke up with his girlfriend for various reasons, but basically did it upon realizing that she didn't really care about what was important to him.
So, jump back to my ex showing up at this concert, along with Tom. My ex called and told me he was coming to the concert, so I got pretty nervous because I really hadn't talked to him in several months (and no longer had the desire too).
I was sitting on the back porch of the venue when he walked outside, and introduced me to Tom. Over the course of the night, it was pretty much me and Tom carrying a conversation, with my ex trying to get a word in now and then. The three of us went out to eat, and it continued to be Tom and I talking.
A few days later, Tom messaged me on AOL, even after my ex had told him "she still wants me really bad" and telling me "don't bother, he has a girlfriend". But, much to my ex's dismay, he realized too late that he had let a good thing go, and Tom and I started dating almost immediately. After Tom had learned about the things my ex had said/did to me after the break up, he wasn't too interested in hanging out with him.
And here we are, 2 years later. We are now recently engaged (Feb. 26th) with a wedding coming up on July 20, 2007. If it hadn't been for the girl that didn't care about Tom, and the guy who threw away what he had with me, we never would have met!

So it was the day after valentines this year.. I was on myspace looking for friends or people that I know. AS I was searching I saw his pic so i clicked on it to see his profile and i liked him almost instantly. And he just so happend to be online so i sent him a message, and told him that i thought he was cute and that I would like to talk. only later on did i find out he thought i was one of his friends playing a joke haha. So we started talking on msn and after a few weeks we decided to go out. he only lives like 45 minutes to an hour from where i live. well we went to watch a movie and to go out to eat. after that we went riding around my town i was showing him all the places were i hang out and things like that. then we went to fishpond, we got out and started throwing snow balls at each other i cought the one he threw at me and threw it back then we got back in the car, and i told him that i won that i deserve a prize just joking around and then he kissed me.. and 2 months later we are still together and im so in love with him he is everything that i have ever wanted in a relationship.. i love every minute we spend together. i hve lots of pictures of us together.

I decided to join this community to tell my story because I think it's kind of fun. Both parts of the meeting (the online and the real life) are kind of long, but they are each very unique, heh. So have a look if you're bored!( An odd online rendezvousCollapse )( A scary journey with a storybook romance endingCollapse )

We met through a mutual online friend who was friends with him in *real life* when I was fifteen. (I lived in Michigan, he lived in England) We started *online dating* shortly after and after months of just talking to each other every day online or on the phone he came to see me in June 2001. It was a bit awkward at first, I'd taken four of my friends and my mom with me to the airport incase he turned out to be a crazy fifty year old stalker or something. Lmao! His mom had flown with him too to make sure I wasn't a crazy stalker and her flight to Louisianna to see family stopped in Detroit anyways. He spent two weeks at my house, meeting all my friends, getting to know one another all over again etc. Then he had to leave :( After being together for two and a half straight weeks every moment of every day we couldn't go back to just talking to each other online.
A few months later at Christmas he paid for me to go see him during my Christmas break and we were in heaven again. We went sight seeing almost every day. It was bliss. That summer he came to see me again and when I came back for my 2nd Christmas with him and his family we got engaged on new Years Eve. He proposed in front of the Christmas tree. I went home for like a month and a half then moved here at the end of February. I had to go back for three weeks the following August to apply for and pick up my Fiancee visa. We got married on February 14th, 2004 at the Hotel Elizabeth. It was small with only close friends and family to attend. We bought our first house a few months later on my nineteenth birthday, and started our own little family with two dogs, two cats, and a bunny.
That was five and a half years ago and now we are expecting a baby boy on February 14th 2006 so we're doing great!
